The Siebenbergen Island

At the southern end of the Karlsaue – not far from our Renthof – there is a very special pearl of garden art, the “Flower Island” of Siebenbergen. TheIsland of Siebenbergen, which was artificially created ca, 1710, owes its paradise-like charm to the court garden director Wilhelm Hentze, who from 1834 onwards was in charge of the Hessian gardens for decades. Hentze created a kind of botanical garden here, and in it he merged exotic plants with native flora. With his particular enthusiasm for early bloomers, he regularly brought the island out of its hibernation and transformed it into a sea of flowers made of corydalises, snowdrops, crocuses, and summer snowflakes. This botanical range now extends to around 100 different plant species from all over the world. In just 20 minutes you can walk to this place of relaxation and recreation.
