SIEBENBERGEN ISLAND

Open year-round

Culture

At the southern end of the Karlsaue – not far from our Renthof – you’ll find a very special gem of garden artistry: the “Flower Island” Siebenbergen. This artificially created island from around 1710 owes its paradisiacal charm to the former court garden director Wilhelm Hentze, who managed the gardens of Electoral Hesse for decades starting in 1834. Hentze created a kind of botanical garden here, combining exotic plants with local flora. With his special passion for early bloomers, he regularly woke the island from its winter sleep, transforming it into a sea of blossoms featuring corydalis, snowdrops, crocuses, and spring snowflakes. Today, its botanical range spans around 100 different plant species from all over the world. You can reach this place of relaxation and recreation in just a 20-minute walk.
